Transit: how do we make service worse? Let's design shifts so that there is no time at terminals for drivers to have a bite or use the washroom. Schedule buses to leave at the same time they arrive. Unloading & loading passengers now makes them late! #plsRT #Halifax #hfxtransit
The new scheduling software will cause chaos & increased driver shortages. For example, 1 shift - 20 mins into the shift is a 6 min break, after that, nothing longer than 2 mins the rest of the shift. It easily takes more than 2 mins for passengers to unload & load, so…
Unfortunately when the new pick starts in May, our passengers will suffer considerable increased lateness. #HfxTransit moved to new scheduling software & significant problems have appeared. Instead of delaying the rollout until problems could be resolved, mgmt insists on going…

Why a #hfxtransit driver shortage? #Splitshifts Eg park your car & start at garage. Finish 1st shift at a terminal across town. 3-hr break, 2nd shift starts at different terminal. Spend your UNPAID shift break traveling between terminals by bus, can't reach your car. /2
2nd shift ends at 3rd term, other side of town. UNPAID time travelling by bus to get to your car at garage. Shifts spread over 12hrs. You get paid for 8hrs. Shift spread is spent traveling & can't use that unpaid time for personal errands or appts. 12hr days for 8hrs pay /3
Drivers choose work/life balance and family time over working for Transit. Transit REFUSES to fix the shifts (straight through, start & stop at same location) to make them more palatable for family life. Drivers quit = runs get cancelled. #Halifax #betterwork #expiredcontract
ATU 508 members deserve respect. Two more bus operators assaulted over the weekend. The long weekend may be coming to a close, but it was much longer for transit union members who worked OT and long holiday shifts to keep Halifax moving. We deserve better.
