Deeply concerned that people are being asked to go to work tomorrow, but avoid public transport, and before workplace safety measures have been introduced. Too many families tonight will face a sleepless night faced with an impossible choice. We need clarity on this urgently

No mention of nurseries and early years providers in the Prime Minister's speech tonight. They've been the 4th emergency service during this crisis - we need more clarity from Government about their role in society’s reopening.

The PM didn’t say workplace changes applied from Wednesday. He said “And the first step is a change of emphasis that we hope that people will act on this week.” Wednesday was only mentioned in relation to other changes. Words matter. Clarity is essential. This is shambolic.

Did I miss Boris thanking front line staff for their extra-ordinary efforts in the lat few weeks?

Boris’ update has essentially handed employers power to dictate whether staff ‘need’ to return to work. No real guidance yet, but some people are expected to be back today. And public transport is (rightly) very limited. If you haven’t already, I suggest you #JoinAUnion asap.

Some context for tonight's Gov't announcement: In May so far: ▪️The UK has suffered the SECOND highest number of recorded Coronavirus deaths in the word ▪️The UK has had the FOURTH highest number of recorded new cases in the world It's not the time to ease the lockdown.

UK Government mixed messages around what is permitted in terms of social distancing, including family get-togethers and transport, is a real challenge for policing: the Home Secretary needs to clarify this urgently.

Through the years, the labour movement has fought for legislation which regulates & restricts the risks to which workers are exposed. These aren't matters of morality or good practice, they are statutory duties enforceable in the last resort by criminal sanctions. [THREAD]

Lots of confusion and unanswered questions following the PMs statement. Parents scared about schools being safe and workers with transport and childcare concerns now potentially forced into work in unsafe circumstances #Covid_19

The PM said to workers don’t use public transport to get back to work use a car instead? Many workers in low paid jobs indeed many of the occupations the PM mentioned cannot afford cars, completely detached from reality of the workforce who rely on public transport #COVID19

What the PM should announce tonight: ▪️Lockdown continues until there's a low & manageable number of new cases ▪️Furlough continues until crisis ends ▪️ Rent suspensions, full sick pay & social security at real living wage levels ▪️Massive expansion of PPE for all key workers

Apparently this means "stay at home as much as possible". The mixed messages are not helpful given the heartbreaking figures of people losing their lives to #COVID19 in the uk.
