This is one of the first design books I’ve opened that had actionable step by step guidance from one of the best, outside of a YouTube video. Logos that last Alan Peters. If you’re a designer get this book.
In design, people forget how important customer service really is. I may not have Meta on my résumé, but my clients stick around because I actually take care of them.
I love the idea of taking a company from one position to another with a beautiful website and a brand. Web design gives you the freedom to express yourself and help a business stand out above the rest. Rewarding.
How to make people actually care about your launch:
Solve a problem they complain about daily
Use words they already use
Show the after state first
Make the benefit stupid-obvious
Remove every unnecessary step
Give them something to share
Attention = Pain × Clarity × Ease
WIn.
The 80/20 rule for launching anything:
80% effort → basic functionality
15% effort → making it look decent
5% effort → obsessing over pixels
Most founders flip this backwards.
Ship at 80%. Improve from real feedback.
Polish comes from profit, not perfection.
Win.
Things nobody tells you about launching:
Your first logo will suck (use it anyway)
Friends won't become customers
"Simple" takes 10x longer than complex
You'll rebuild your homepage 47 times
Most "urgent" feedback isn't urgent
Day 1 feels like day 100
Launch messy. Win.
How to validate your startup idea in 48 hours:
Find 10 people with the problem
Ask: "What's the most frustrating part about [problem]?"
Mock up a simple solution
Show it to 5 of them
If 3+ say "I'd pay for this" = you're golden
If not → pivot fast
Validation beats perfection.
Startups don’t fail because of bad ideas.
They fail because nobody gets the idea.
Your brand should answer:
✅ What do you sell?
✅ Who’s it for?
✅ Why should I care?
✅ Why should I trust you?
If your website can’t do that in 5 seconds, you’re losing leads.
What kills most startups?
Templated DIY websites and logos
Your website needs to:
Say exactly what you do, in 1 sentence
Add proof someone trusted you
Use 1 bold color, not 12
Clear call to action
Show your face or team
If it looks like a scam, people treat it like one.
Quick fixes that instantly improve any startup website:
The headline = what you do + who it’s for
1 strong testimonial above the fold
A descriptive CTA
Add a clear next step (schedule, buy, contact)
Most sites don’t need more pages.
They need more clarity.
People don’t buy when they’re confused.
They buy when they trust you.
Here’s what builds trust on your website:
Clear headline — what you do & for who
Real testimonials (faces help)
Case studies or proof of results
Clean, modern design
Transparent pricing or next steps
How to launch a brand + website that actually stands out:
Pick a weird niche or clear angle
Lock in a bold name + simple logo
Build a one-liner that punches
Design a scroll-stopping landing page
Add social proof, offer, CTA
Launch it in public. Boom.
Most agencies lose clients because of poor communication.
Here’s how we avoid that:
Discovery call to align on goals.
Instant Notion access — all links, timelines, assets in one place.
Slack for fast, direct updates.
4-hour or less response time.
That’s why clients stay.
Trust signals your startup website is missing:
— No real testimonials
— No face behind the brand
— No case studies or proof of results
— No clear pricing or offer
— No SSL/security badge
— No social media links
— No FAQ or support info
Fix these and watch your conversions go up
