Everton needed a reaction after Leeds. Today wasn't perfect, but it was a definite improvement. Grealish and Ndiaye are going to be fun to watch this season. Grealish immediately added two traits this team desperately needs: creativity and the ability to simply retain possession.

Another one for the Everton horror collection. Dyche waited too long to change it, and when he eventually did, he subbed off the two best players while others stayed on running on fumes. Somehow, we've lost a game we should have won by four or five.
Season ends and Dyche seems to forget Keane isn't very good and starts playing him again (same happened last season). Everton also need a right-back or that position could be a big issue this season. Iroegbunam was a rare positive on a day when too many others were miles off it.
Everton beaten by a better team in the end. But the Onana handball was a farce. We've reached the point where every natural position is now unnatural. His arm was exactly where it should be, and Ake is about a yard away. What is he actually supposed to do? Absolute nonsense call.
Frustrating not to hold on after leading for so long. Everton needed some help from Dyche, though. Several running on fumes long before the end and we needed some fresh legs to try to ease the pressure. Brighton had made 4 subs while we had Beto doing the world's longest warm-up.
Everton starting to look like a team that understands what Dyche wants and knows how to put it into action on the pitch. Given what's happened in recent years, at the very least, that's a very promising step in the right direction. Saturday will be a good test of that progress.
Three quality performances key to a very good Everton win. Branthwaite shaping up as one of our best value for money signings (£750,000 in 2020) and still improving every game. Onana everywhere and excellent in possession. Calvert-Lewin makes such a difference as the focal point.
Everton had more people booked in the dugout than Liverpool did on the pitch. Disgraceful lack of consistency from the referee. Young can have no complaints with the second yellow, but Konate clearly should have been sent off. Defensive effort in the second half deserved better.
Two great wins in a few days gives Everton something to build on. Harrison lively on his debut and Onana's best game in a while. Branthwaite effortlessly filling the centre-back void probably the biggest positive so far this season. He's miles ahead of the alternatives already.
Everton needing a double save in injury-time to not lose a game they should have won comfortably. Suspect this squad may live between such fine margins all season. Beto looks a class act already, and we should have had a penalty (or two). Awful officiating once again.
Gbamin finally departs for nothing, four years after signing for £25m on a five-year deal. He played 213 minutes of Premier League football in 4 years. Another player signed for big money that contributed nothing except wasted resources. We're still stuck with several others.
Iwobi sale is good business given his contract but it leaves a massive void in the team. He may be inconsistent, infuriating at times, but he's miles ahead of the rest in nearly all creativity stats. Most of this Everton squad struggle to pass 5 yards, never mind create a chance.
