listen…… when you go from retail/food service to this…. it is paradise lol
omg hit tweet 😳 if you are a film girlie, check out @offscrncentral !! 💖
@maddiexdrew Working retail/food/any kind of "customer is always right" environment will often have you LOVE office work, no matter how mundane it is. Having your own space is so nice.
@maddiexdrew You ain’t lying. My first job as a dishwasher, i used to try to sit down on a big bucket while peeling potatoes or something (we had to keep busy even when there was nothing to wash) and the owner of the restaurant would “catch me” sitting and kick the bucket out from under me
@maddiexdrew Facts but it gets old fast. It’s soul sucking in a much different way
@maddiexdrew I remember the day I went from a 3rd shift to a 9-5 It was amazing seeing sunlight again.
@maddiexdrew Oh yes, my story exactly. Also, "You mean I get a whole hour for lunch?! What am I supposed to do with that much time?!"
@maddiexdrew I agree. When you spend years jumping from one part-time retail job to another and then you land a full-time 9-5 job working in an office, it gives you this great feeling like you finally have a real job.
@maddiexdrew Yes but you get over it after a year. Going from an office to WFH is the real paradise lol
@maddiexdrew no legit i was a server / bartender before landing my office job and its SOO much more relaxed and stress free
@maddiexdrew yeah having ur nights be free is life changing lol u can actually have hobbies that arent drinking
@maddiexdrew No. This isn’t paradise. Being outside and active and making peoples experience amazing is way better than this. You’ll get fat tired and lazy and complain about your entire existence. Good luck.
@maddiexdrew That paradise will last a few months before you realize a 9-5 office cubicle is its own special hell
@maddiexdrew Be feeling like u cheated yo way outta slavery or something lol like "bro I don't even belong here"
@maddiexdrew Waking up on a Saturday and not having X hours until you have to clock in is a wild feeling the first couple weeks
I’ve worked in food, retail, scrubbed toilets, manual labor jobs, remote jobs and corporate office jobs. I’m picking corporate or remote every time. Don’t get me wrong though, blue collar jobs are also very important and I got mad respect for people who do them. Without them, society wouldn’t function.
@maddiexdrew Unless it's a call center desk. Then, you'll be begging to flip burgers before the year is out.
@maddiexdrew wish I had this - big open offices are fucking terrible. no privacy
@maddiexdrew Only if the job doesn't suck because quite frankly I would rather not be on this earth than do either of the jobs you mentioned ever again
@maddiexdrew Seriously. Just having my own space was AMAZING.
@maddiexdrew I remember this... Phone retail to an e-commerce office job. Heavenly!
@maddiexdrew I am still working from home for 80% of my week, and I don’t think I can come back to full time 9-5 office ppl.
@maddiexdrew Semi-private, my own space, comfy chair, AC, probably constant supply of coffee in the office... It isn't ideal but it sure beats not having a job and being homeless
@maddiexdrew Leaving retail i showed up at 7 am to my office and worked til 530 I thought it was legit amazing... then I got promoted to a hybrid role and then I felt I was on cloud 9. Tbh office work isn't bad. Plus I always travel opposite traffic so I enjoyed my commute.
@maddiexdrew Some people haven’t struggled a day in their life. This kind of post exposes them.
@maddiexdrew But working here first makes you want to work remote, under a rock ..at the bottom of hell. AT&T was my first corporate job at 23 for their Business Accounts. I was depressed
@maddiexdrew I had an office job for a few months and that 9-5 ain’t worth it. I served tables for 10 years and made more money and had more freedom and even health benefits.
@maddiexdrew It loses its luster fast.😑. Most non-coding cubicle jobs involve a call queue. Nobody should spend 40 hours a week answering a phone.
@maddiexdrew couldn’t convince me to go back to food/retail
@maddiexdrew Your own space, stuff, consistent schedule that doesn't change while you sleep... mmmm.....
@maddiexdrew Man I remember when I got my first desk
@maddiexdrew If the pay is decent it ain't bad at all. Lots of space and some privacy.
@maddiexdrew True, there were many years (and sometimes still are) that I’d love an office job. Even pencil pushing sounds heavenly.
