#ACADoleBludgeon @ACurrentAffair9 Of course gambling your last chances is irresponsible, we all agree on that. But I cannot stress this enough, most people never know what was "real" and what was "luck" too bad that right now we all need a lot more of the latter.

#ACADoleBludgeon @ACurrentAffair9 On that topic, I guess we all have to take chances. The thing is, if someone buys a dollar scratchy, they don't take it personally if they don't win. Try that with your resume, its a different story. Those of us who got jobs won the lottery.

#ACADoleBludgeon @ACurrentAffair9 Did you know that most people never know how much funding their JSP has to available to get them back to work? So they are playing blackjack against a crooked dealer hoping to ask for just enough, but not too much. Life's a gamble I guess.

Tomorrow I find out if my luck has changed. Its all luck. If I'm successful there are many who would chalk it up to moral purity, skill, talent, or hard work. I'm sure they like to believe that because it absolves them of caring of their neighbors. But they can't if its luck.

The real stunner is how far below poverty people are willing to live if they believe in what they are doing. Why punish them for that? Do we just admit defeat and let charities open poor houses again? Is that the legacy of the grand democratic experiment?

What stops people at the poverty line from finding more work? Because they prioritize their effort differently. Why should they have to explain it? Have the support ready to help them go further if/when they need it.

#BTPM solutions: Support systems must remove barriers, not add them. Cashless systems should be beyond the pale as an option. All support has to have considerations for trauma built in from the beginning. It can't be after the fact, by then the trauma has been made worse.

#BTPM solutions: Education! Seminars and instructors, not just pamphlets, for those who are doing contract jobs, so that they know their responsibilities. People can contract if they want, but they need to know the risks. A small investment compared to the costs of enforcement.

#BTPM solutions: The system needs to be more responsive to short term concerns, job instability, or transient problems. The more people stay on their feet, the faster they get back to where they want to be. Boo-hoo to cash-converters and credit cards.

#BTPM solutions: Those who require services should have control over who assists them, and the funding rewarded to that organization. Outcomes based funding must be clear and transparent or it will be gamed.

#BTPM solutions: Pressure should be placed on MPs to validate how well their community takes care of its own. Someone moving to a region with better care should be a point of pride. "Makers and Takers" should have been left behind with phrenology and miasma theory.

#BTPM solutions: Penalties need to follow power. The person receiving assistance should be the last one to be penalized, it should become the standard that the system above them is checked for failure points before the vulnerable are penalized.

#BTPM solutions: Use the lockdowns and past natural disasters as case studies in spending. Study the impacts of investment rentals on the availability of homes for first time home buyers. Evaluate the costs and realistic expectations for those who use public transit.

#BTPM solutions: During the early part of the lockdown, many of us spent out of budget to get necessities when we could as prices changed. This happens every disaster, its normal, we all need that flexibility. Shopping on a scheduled day cannot be the only option for someone.
