If GP’s aren’t qualified to decide if you’re unwell, are anti benefit fraud teams a good substitute? Sounds pretty draconian to me. Rishi Sunak to strip GPs of right to sign people off sick thetimes.co.uk/article/1be1b1…
@mariellaf1 GP’s refuse to take this task seriously. They fear confrontation. What else is to be done?
@mariellaf1 Another in a long line of distraction stories.
@mariellaf1 A year ago Feb I was signed off sick 'cos I couldn't breath; during that time I underwent a huge amount of tests and they "accidentally" found nodules on my thyroid. 3 months I was off work before I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer! Might not have been poss under Sunak's plan?!
@mariellaf1 So you go to the GPs cos your ill and they refer you to a non doctor if they think you're too ill or contagious to go to work and the non doctor will decide if the more experienced medically qualified GP was right or not, absolute genius Rishi 🙄
@mariellaf1 Expect Starmer will bring in his own version but agree Mariella.
@mariellaf1 Anti benefit teams have one purpose, get people off benefits whatever the reason, most likely they will get paid a bonus for everyone they say are fit for work.
@mariellaf1 Maybe we could all go to our local MPs and ask them to give us the once over. They already call it an MP's surgery don't they. Now that's what I call forward thinking! Just think, you'll soon be able to get a fitness for job interview and a colonoscopy at the same time 😬
@mariellaf1 Wonder whether Sunak's aim is to reduce GP's workloads, thereby allowing them to do more consultations. That aside, the idea that decisions on 'fit notes' should be outsourced is half-baked and not the vote winner he maybe hopes it could be.
@mariellaf1 Maybe he should employ all the disabled people he wants off benefits do do this role, you know the ones who understand and have experience
