Jersey Mike's direct mail is a complete and utter failure. Instead of having called me or used more direct forms of contacting me, in the last 52 weeks, when we've met with them multiple times. They chose to send me useless coupons that don't communicate with me.

Most restaurants don't even try, but Pizza Nerds is trying in the most unique ways! They check all the boxes, but instead of stopping there, they are exceeding the expectations by getting customer data from them while playing a simple arcade game inside their restaurant.

Another very easy and effective way to build your database is through in-store contests. Just take a jar, throw some money in it, or just something random, and make a mini promo out of it, asking customers to guess how much is in the jar.

How I like it, Jo's Diner and Pizzeria dives right into the community and owns its niche. The owner hosts charity events that bring people together in a way that writing a check never could. They’re also the only pizza place in town that delivers.

Instead of just writing a check to a fundraiser or charity, and calling it a day. Maybe just show up, help with the fundraiser, lend your attention and effort, rather than just sending money. This would not only bring more attention to the actual charity but also to you.
