Do consumers really buy more sustainable products, or do they simply say that they care about it in surveys?
@mbertulli In my last survey on this (500+ respondents) I asked specifically if they’d bought in the last 90 days BECAUSE of a sustainable product or packaging option. 32% yes
@mbertulli I think consumers want low-effort sustainability. If there’s a minimal amount of friction for them to make that choice, they’ll do it. If it requires effort significantly beyond what the alternatives are, then I think the appetite for sustainable consumption dampens quite a bit.
@mbertulli I think it can be benefit #4 or #5 but it can’t be the main benefit of a product.
@mbertulli I don’t know a single person that does this in practice. Every says it. But they all buy for: price, convenience, design, or prestige. My self included.
@mbertulli Personal need > Environmental impact
@mbertulli Virtue signalling is what will prolly water down that survey
