My first thought seeing the “are lawyers who defend rapists abolitionist heroes or enemies” discourse is that it is abstracted to the benefit of rape apologia. Not enough interrogation into the real dynamics of rape trials and what practices are involved in that “defense.”

Look, public defenders are relatively good, in the sense that it's better to have some check on the state internally, but ALSO public defenders are often incentivized by their job to do heinous shit, from ruthlessly lying about survivors to pressuring activists into plea deals.

He kidnapped a woman, took her to an ATM at gunpoint and forced her to withdraw $200, then drove her to a remote area where he raped her, made her walk naked to the dock & kneel before shooting her execution style. She didnt die immediately. Suffocation was a merciful punishment.
