Why isn’t taking over a company and firing lots of employees known as looting? Those employees have value and make value. Muscling in, firing people and keeping what would have been their income is nothing more than theft.

When a person loots a store, they are a criminal and get fines and prison and a bill for their room and board. When a person loots a company, they are an investor and get riches and praise and lots of opportunities.

Even at their least intent, billionaires harm others by default. The rest of us give tacit permission. But the rest of us could stop it cold if we would only shake off being mesmerized by the glamour of what we wrongly think we see.

2/2 When multiple wrongs try to coexist and where perfect equality of wrongness fails, one is apt to seek advantage by outing another simply because it is the nature of wrong to be wrong, to seek advantage where none is proper and where gain is coveted more than honor.

1/2 Multiple wrongs succeed in wrongness when they are equally balanced in their need to be thought as virtuous, when their wrongness is equal and equally welded each to the other and maintained in strength for the edification of those oblivious to the masquerade.

3/4 Authoritarianism binds us all when even a minority embrace it outright. But that is what they want to do to us; that is how they operate, squeezing a bit at a time, slowly taking advantage of the open society afforded by democracy to choke off the essence of freedom.

2/4 It is the fact that authoritarianism has spread so widely in our country that is the most troubling factor. Many of us in the South lived in expectation of being swamped by what we thought was conservatism, never dreaming that much of the country would yield to ignorance.

1/4 In the South, conservatism was so entrenched for so long that we failed to see that many who passed as conservative were really authoritarian, a perniciousness that expanded right in front of us but without our understanding.

The odd thing about authoritarian praise of individuality is that it relates to circumscribed identity that admits no room for freedom, the very ideal they claim to cherish. Authoritarians want lockstep control, suspicious of diversity hostile to its expression.
