BILE ESCULIN TEST: (+) Blackening of the agar slant (-) No blackening and no growth
BILE ESCULIN TEST: Methods =Inoculate(from 24-hour culture)--->SLANT =Incubate(35-37 deg C for 48 hours) pH of the media: 6.6
BILE ESCULIN TEST: Gram positive bacteria are inhibited by bile salts (Source: Bailey's and Scott)
BACITRACIN SUSCEPTIBILITY TEST: ->Presumptive test for Group A Streptococci and other streptococci spp
RESULTS: (+) Zone of inhibition of more than 10mm---->SUSCEPTIBLE (-)No zone of inhibition---->RESISTANT
INCUBATION: Staphylococci=ambient air Streptococci=5-10% C02
>Incubation(18-24 hours at 35-37 degrees C) >Check and report for "Zone of Inhibition"(mm)
Taxo A =impregnated with 0.04 units of BACITRACIN
The test used in distinguishing Staphylococci(Resistant) spp from Micrococci(Susceptible) is BACITRACIN SUSCEPTIBILITY TEST.
