Some great imperial interrogator costume designs Dina created for the Original Cut of Star Wars (Pre-Lucas). I still have the molds for the Moth Marmon mask (3rd image). We never shot the scene as these and all costumes were lost in the acetone spill. Dina was devastated.

Rachel Carlson and Steve Roblé screen testing for Han and The Princess (Later Named Leia). They didn’t land the role but went on to get married after their screen test chemistry turned into the real thing.

The studio acetone spill destroyed the film and most of the sets, forcing us to capitulate to the buy-out by Lucas. These incredible droids are some of the few props that survived. Questions remain to this day as to how the spill happened. #prelucas #originalcut

A bounty hunter costume test we developed prior to shooting the sail barge scene. Kevin Falconi was an absolute professional even tho he had a herniated disc throughout the entire production.

Our early “Silver Dur” (later renamed Vader) costume test. We sold this design and a few others to the production company that went on to make Buck Rogers in the 25th century.

After hours crew hangouts during shooting of the Amos Eisley/Cantina sequence. We were proud to have hired several little people on the show that made our aliens far more believable and size-diverse than the Lucas reshoots.

Part of the wonder we created in the Original Cut of Star Wars was the “lived in universe” which Lucas attempted to recreate in his commercially successful reshoot. Our Amos Eisley was shot in North Africa and locals were given roles as extras walking the streets.

Our first licensing deal was to let the Japanese beverage company Shōben Spirits use “Lord Chobaka” in a commercial for their high alcohol Kombucha.

Ira with his very first “Yoda” (Yohog) puppet around 1972 and a few years later preparing the exploding head puppet for Yohog’s death scene. The production took a toll on Ira and he never forgave us for killing off his favorite creation.

Years after the shoot, DP Paul Hodges and I revisited the Lars family hovercraft prop which had been abandoned at the Patara Dunes in Turkey. Apparently someone had set fire to it. I wonder if any of it remains today. #pataradunes #starwarsoriginalcut #prelucas
