Most people who wandered into that situation had no idea what was going on. Advocates are absolutely right about that. The same disadvantages which make you more likely to get debanked make you much less likely to read papers about money laundering compliance for work or fun.

More on DID DHT: it's an upgrade to static key DIDs, like did:key, did:jwk, etc. (which already have millions of users) and non-standard IDs like Nostr npubs, b/c your DID can resolve to multiple keys of any type + any URLs you add to route people/apps to your node/data locations
