"Just tell me what to do!" We've all been there - needing someone to spell out exactly what to do so we can carefully follow the step-by-step instructions to complete the task. It feels safe. It's quick. And deferring to someone else (who knows more than us) makes sense. 🧵

Just a reminder that: - playing 100 games in a season is NOT development - attending exposure/ID events is NOT development When you’re always “performing” you’re not actually improving.

Most coaches would be better served to bite their tongue at the compulsion to give verbal feedback. Providing a running commentary is not coaching - and frankly, it hinders improvement in players.

Coaching is not about prescribing and dictating. It's about creating situations where the athlete is challenged to figure it out. You nudge them along, but if you always give them the answer, you aren't actually teaching. And they aren't learning.
