On this day in 1980, Terry Fox began his Marathon of Hope. He would go on to run 5,373 km in 143 days, raising funds and awareness for cancer research that still continues to this day. Fox's legacy reminds us that a courageous person can change the world
@mikecommito The Marathon of Hope Van is now in Victoria BC.
@mikecommito We are so fortunate to have had him as a fellow Canadian. He stood for all the good in us. 🫶
@mikecommito @AndyBrookeLmstn If I had to pick 1 hero that represents Canada, it would be Terry Fox, courageous, tenacious and and a never give up attitude
@mikecommito The amazing thing I learned from the 30 for 30 is that each day he ran a marathon.
@mikecommito In 1980 his chance of survival was 25% today that same cancer is over 80% survivable and not lose his leg. He probably saved my life my cancer was removed and I have been 5 years cancer free. I lost my mom grandmother grandfather 3 aunts 2 uncles to cancer. #FuckCancer.
@mikecommito Saw him north of Parryy Sound Ontario. He greeted us. It was a life-changing moment.
@mikecommito I loved it when we were this country
@mikecommito Greatest Canadian ever! Why he isn’t on our currency is a travesty!
@mikecommito Now that is a hero. We need to put him on one of our Canadian bills!!
@mikecommito @TitaniumGoldBC Billions and billions of dollars later people still die from the same cancer Terry died.
@mikecommito @PeterMacKay “A Great Canadian!”🇨🇦
@mikecommito @PeterMacKay I Remember “The Marathon of Hope.” Raising Money For Cancer Awareness. Sad Ending for Terry Fox. He fought hard.❤️
@mikecommito He began in St. John's, Newfoundland.
@mikecommito We did have heroes and role-models in our day...
@mikecommito They don't build people like him very often. Glad I was old enough to appreciate him.
@mikecommito The greatest athlete of all time in the history of human beings
@mikecommito @kinsellawarren Rest in peace! Never forgotten dear soul! You were a true hero!
