How many roads near you have a layout like this? Conventional wisdom suggested central hatching would slow drivers down, but studies showed removing it actually decreased vehicle speeds. We could rapidly make much better use of this space to enable safe cycling infrastructure.

So depressing that @boltoncouncil councillors think this little guy shouldn't be going anywhere by bike and should be driven everywhere (like most kids are across GM).

Cutacre country park is lovely, but getting here by bike from Westhoughton, less than 2 miles away, with a child is a miserable experience. Yet our dinosaur councillors say we don't need protected cycle lanes on the A6.

This is the sliver of pavement alongside a 40mph stretch of the A6. @boltoncouncil tell us no cycle lane us needed here., everything is just fine for walking and cycling.

This is where @boltoncouncil think it's acceptable to position a new sign on the A6. Warning of the mythical new road layout for social distancing. You couldn't make it up.

Teenage friend of my daughter, 14, arrives on her bike for a visit. “How nice to see you cycling!" I enthuse when I see it locked up outside. She replies, "Yes, the cycle lane [C9, which runs down our local high street] makes it really safe for me now.” SO great to hear this.

@MrHappyCyclist @CGreenUK @UrmstonDeb I mean, I'd expect MPs to generally read up on evidence & expert guidance before they form opinions on stuff they otherwise clearly have no knowledge of. For benefit of tape, there is a wealth of evidence on why physically separating cycle and motor vehicle flows is a good idea.

Could anyone possibly be surprised at this, given the callous attitude of Bolton Council leaders on the safety of people choosing a healthy, efficient sustainable mode of transport. They can't even provide safety during an organized event on their roads. theboltonnews.co.uk/news/19421116.…
