Starting in January, all California cities and counties that provide trash services are supposed to have food recycling programs in place and grocery stores must donate edible food that otherwise would be thrown away to food banks or similar organizations. abc7.com/11317637

Said to me today: “I’ve been teaching online for 2 community colleges. I love it. I prefer it over the classroom. I can engage my students in more meaningful ways. But I was just told I must return to campus. Are you aware of any OL teaching jobs I could apply for?” The irony.

I heard that a faculty in an equity workshop was discouraged from teaching online asynchronously b/c synchronous interaction is vital to supporting vulnerable students. I vehemently disagree. There is no causation between modality and support. It's the *teaching* that matters.

Tracking the hours I'm spend teaching my two classes as an adjunct intuctor this semester (incl planning, grading, answering emails, etc.). In December I'll calculate my hourly pay.

creative writing and/or speech are really important classes in a high school's curriculum. both throw a wrench into the machine that seeks to churn out generations of pod people. play past it (another motto, btw).

There are Facebook groups for teachers looking to leave the profession. Thousands of members express their exhaustion, frustration, and desperation daily. I doubt admin and those in other fields recognize what is coming in public ed.

If getting back to "normal" at school means we are back to not providing devices for students who don't have them at home, then I don't want to go back to normal. Have we forgotten about the tech divide so soon?
