@mnolangray Pretty sure the assumption is most Tesla owners charge at home, but yeah. All kinds of failures to consider the user experience.
@mnolangray Well it doesn’t seem to be causing any problems does it
@mnolangray Not a problem for us in the UK. It’s in the same place!
@mnolangray Meanwhile, 99.99% of Teslas charge in garages or at Superchargers, where the rear driver's side location is the obviously correct choice. But in this 0.01% use-case, it's an opportunity to look smarter than their engineers.
@mnolangray @devomase Tesla's not alone.
@mnolangray 99% are all on the driver's side, which does not lend itself well to curbside parking
@mnolangray Would be cool to see them have a port on both sides on future iterations. Not sure if any current EVs do but it’s a feature I love about my MacBook. That said, with the vast majority of charging done at home, maybe it doesn’t make sense from a cost perspective?
@mnolangray What? Just turn around. In petrol cars you have to park with the correct side next to the pump. It's the same thing.
@mnolangray That is the worst charging station in Vancouver. Between the poor design of @Tesla charge port and the fact that there are three charging stations but it’s impossible for three vehicles to park there and have all three charging cables reach.
@mnolangray My favorite take-down of Tesla and other EVs: You’re paying like $80k for a coal powered, super-heavy Toyota Camry with touch-screens. I walk/take transit everywhere and have nothing against EVs. Except that they’re powered by coal/natural gas.
@mnolangray The amount of people arguing about which side it should be on when the obvious solution is a port on each side is depressing.
@mnolangray Renault-Nissan got it right with their nose-charging Zoe and Leaf There's no limit as to where to put the "fill port", so why put it in places dictated by old technology? Ideally the best location is probably the rear bumper, which Mercedes did in one example
@mnolangray Audi also has the charge port on the left. I don't get it!
@mnolangray Yep. Drives me nuts. Holdover from when Teslas were designed for middle aged wealthy suburban people who all universally have a garage. Drivers side makes plugging in slightly easier.
@mnolangray One of my biggest pet peeves is people driving through gas stations every direction they can think of. GAS STATIONS SHOULD BE ONE WAY AND ALL CARS SHOULD HAVE BE FILLED UP ON THE SAME SIDE.
@mnolangray I’m not sure which corner would be better, but I’m surprised no manufacturer has tried to put several around the car for convenience. It’s not cheap, but it’s a common pain point, so it would be a very vocal talking point.
@mnolangray The Magic Mouse of cars.
@mnolangray Go to that Keg on the corner in Yaletown and get some Billy Miner pie. Best desert ever.
@mnolangray worse that it’s an American brand whose cars “gas tanks” are supposed to be on the right side anyway lol
@mnolangray I’ve said since my first LEAF in 2012, they need to standardize the location.
@mnolangray Tesla should have planned for this charger and this exact street to re-do their car design i guess.
@mnolangray Everyone should have dual charging ports.
@mnolangray The best side for normal cars not so for evs.
@mnolangray Nah, it's usually more convenient for the plug to be on the driver's side. This type of steeet parking plugin isn't a common charging setup. I prefer this setup on my Volvo (driver's side, just in front of the driver's door) to my old LEAF (in front near the hood latch)
@mnolangray Any particular downsides to putting it front and center, besides touching dead bugs? Battery pack runs straight down the middle, there's no problem there. You could also probably put it in the B pillar too.
@mnolangray My Kia port is on the passenger side. Nanner nanner.
@mnolangray I think it’s because most garages have a door on the drivers side. So your charger would be there too. No perfect side for all scenarios
@mnolangray When it comes to street chargers, you’re always going to end up at a charger on the opposite side of your car since they get placed on both sides of the street. Duh.
@mnolangray We need to fight public curbside street charging with all of our power, to not lock in private car use…more than it already is locked down
@mnolangray Why doesn’t it have charge porta on both sides? Seems fairly simple with electricity.
@mnolangray Rumor has it that the charging position was chosen because it was convenient for Elon’s garage
@mnolangray 🤔 I don't see why they couldn't put a charger on both sides.
@mnolangray I feel like they meant to have one on both sides but then cut out that cost later on
