A big day in the legislature for pro-housing legislation! Three pieces of California YIMBY-sponsored legislation moved out of the second chamber. Combined with laws we've helped to pass in recent years, it will never be easier to build missing middle housing in California. 🧵
Background: In 2021, California made history by adopting SB 9, which aimed to allow duplexes and lot splits. When combined with robust ADU law, the goal was to allow for up to four units on lots in residential areas—key for ending our shortage.

@mnolangray really excited about this. One thing that I'm curious about is the financing vehicles that are available to help fund these types of projects?
@mnolangray Lol, a carriage house for your illegal alien servants! Slave quarters!
@mnolangray Yes the answer isnt 30 - 40 story buildins, its duplexes ffs
@mnolangray How does this interplay with tree ordnances? No plans to build an ADU here now or ever, but the one place it would make sense would require the removal of a couple of trees -- and that can be a pretty costly proposition.
@mnolangray Duplex, or a row house - when you have all the maintenance burden of a detached house but get to live with a neighbour behind the wall. Still beats living in an apartment though, just ask Brits.
@mnolangray Why stop here? Why not pre-empt for all housing typologies?
@mnolangray WHERE IS THE TRIPLE DECKER
@mnolangray I lived in something very similar to the cottage court and it was great Even had off street parking
