The median home price in California is 9x the median household income. A healthy ratio ranges between 3 and 5. (The ratio in Texas is 4.5.) It's cold confort to say "all are welcome here" and then uphold housing policies that exclude all but the wealthiest.

This was an election about cost of living with some weird culture war issues as window dressing. It's a big problem for national Democrats that the state most associated with Democratic governance is the state that does worst on this outside of like Hawaii.
@mnolangray California Dem here who saw this yesterday and went what the absolute f*** are you doing? Read the room Gav.
@mnolangray Couldn't have said it better myself Feels like Newsom only does performative shit these days to runway his 2028 presidential campaign No real action
@mnolangray It's like feudal lords advertising, "Serfs wanted."
@mnolangray Trump should have the new DOJ indict this asshole for violating the US Constitution and immigration laws, for allowing millions to cross over California's border illegally.
@mnolangray Might depend on the metro in question but yes CA is probably on the wrong end of the ratio. Perhaps for good reason though. What other state comes close in weather?
@mnolangray A healthy ratio ranges between 0 and 5*
@mnolangray Where does one find this data for all 50 states?
@mnolangray The electoral map that SHOULD scare Californians. Note also that more Californians now live east of the 5 than west of it. This isn’t just cows voting. We need to build housing. And we need it near the coast where the weather is nicer and people want to live.
@mnolangray The median California voter thinks the state is full and we can't built more housing. I can't stress this enough but the median California voter is a Hitler who likes weed and gay marriage.
@mnolangray They should implementing the One Billion Californians plan
@mnolangray Gavin is extraordinarily wealthy himself. Why is he supposed to care? He's already been anointed & next in line for the D presidential nomination. Nobody will question it.
@mnolangray Doesn’t even take into account property tax costs for those homes in CA.
@mnolangray Property tax difference also plays a major role in price difference.
@mnolangray Why would you measure housing prices in a specific region against general household incomes rather than median household income in that region?
@mnolangray 100% Nolan. Newsome is an idiot.
@mnolangray @ArmandDoma Supply and demand. The only thing the government can do is regulations to ease the building of units. Where I live in CA that has happened, it’s way easier, but you still have the problem that developers want market rate for any dwelling.
@mnolangray I made this meme a few years back and looks like it will be evergreen in CA.
@mnolangray This is him setting aside a block of dough to give to his lawyer friends to harass trump initiatives who will then recycle some of the money into a gavin for president campaign in 2027
@mnolangray As a voting dem it’s wild to me how out of touch this is by newsome. Always focusing on problems that don’t exist and ignoring real problems. Fix CEQA if you want to make real change!
@mnolangray You are absolutely correct. That's why I moved out of CA 🤡. Cost of living there is horseshit.
@mnolangray To be fair hasn’t Newsom signed a ton of pro YIMBY bills over the last few years and been outspoken on how environmental regulations are being abused to block new housing? Isn’t this mostly a city/local zoning issue?
