@mnolangray How did segregation impact train access and mass transit in Philadelphia over the years? @grok
@mnolangray Its only crazy if you pretend buses aren't transit.
@mnolangray Philadelphia is very walkable, and that's the way I went when I visited in 2018... I tried using the trains but: a) there was no way to buy fare, the machines wouldn't accept foreign credit cards; b) the trains were literally full of obnoxious and unpredictable people.
@mnolangray It’s because South Philly relied on trolleys for so many years. And if the main destination is Center City trolleys are enough.
@mnolangray South Philly fucking sucks and it’s because all they have is the BSL. Philly busses suck ass too, only redeemable factor are the subway lines. If we were a remotely serious city they could at least bring back the N-S trolley lines
@mnolangray You live in Sacramento… maybe sit this one out
@mnolangray Wdym? Philly is the most walkable city in the country. If you’re from here you know the transit here makes perfect sense.
@mnolangray But, there is more rail transit in Philly than in 95% of other US cities. And, the busses do run well there due to the gridded streets and predictable, well-run bus routes.
@mnolangray East-West light rail lines on Washington, Oregon, and possibly Snyder would go insanely hard but I am skeptical they will ever happen given the general lack of vision and risk averseness from many Philly decision-makers
@mnolangray Every single house in this picture is a mile and a half from the train and a few blocks at most from a bus route
@mnolangray Looks like a great opportunity for @swyftcities 💯!!!
@mnolangray @grok what is the total public transport investment in Sydney vs Philadelphia over the period 2010-2030?
@mnolangray I've been saying for a while, there is a whole unused rail on the east side that could be used that they dont. It also runs all the way down past the stadiums which could help with game days
@mnolangray It's crazy that there's no metro running up Ridge Avenue in Roxborough! At least South Philly is flat.
@mnolangray Ever since a couple of guys started making trouble in the neighborhood...
@mnolangray Every retard in this comment section that doesn't grasp that it doesn't matter how "good" Philly is for transport, it's a fucking joke compared to literally any city with a medium sized population in Europe or East Asia. We're competing with fucking developing countries.
@mnolangray It looks like SEPTA's Broad Street Line runs right through the middle - which makes commuting in South Philly so easy. Can't imagine life here without the subway! 🚇
