The broad historical arc is happening and we can't control it. Oligarchy slides into feudalism and this is how republics die. An educated historian's goal if they are a parent should be for their child to die at least a yoeman and not a serf. Aristocracy is unlikely

The american social contract is what built American society. When that contract was altered to include not enough compensation to support a family, our middle class was basically abolished, but not in real time. These effects take decades/generations.

When this was the understanding, people afforded homes. They afforded large families and had space for them. The understanding was that your salary alone could support your FAMILY. Including one adult nonworker.

There used to be an understanding in society. Society was here to help people have families. Jobs existed to support those families. If a person worked a full time job the contract was they got to support their family. This included one support person who didn't have to work.
