If you're someone who plays mostly online and getting ready for an OTB tournament, consider switching to ChessCom's "real 3d" theme a week or two before the tournament. Getting used to seeing the pieces in 3d is a big deal.

Calculate on your turn and think big picture on your opponent's turn. Can't remember who suggested this, but it makes sense to me.

A deceptively tricky decision from my latest tournament. I've now shown it to a lot of players up to 2000, and way less than 50% chose the best move for Black. What would you do?

Do you have a favorite Steinitz game? I've been going back through them. Some nice attacks, some pratfalls by his opponents, and he sure won a lot of games by castling queenside and pawnstorming the kingside. But not a lot of "accumulation of small advantages" 🤔

Calculation is the art of examining forcing moves. If you're trying to calculate in a position with no forcing moves, you're using the wrong tool for the job. In such a case you'll have better results thinking conceptually.
