Is anyone else tired of hearing every week how a new LLM by OpenAI or Anthropic just released, and this one is different. This time, *for sure*, we're only 3 - 6 months away from AGI. Oh it's not working? You just don't know how to prooompt bro, just proompt it better.

@neetcode1 True! The fact that hallucinations is still a thing today, even though the top AI people (Sam Altman, Mustafa Suleyman, etc) all said a couple years ago that it would’ve been a solve problem by now and it isn’t is all you need to know! Will take longer than they say!

Interesting, isn’t it, that the models always seem to do so exceedingly well on benchmarks, yet absolutely crash and burn on basic, everyday tasks. The excuse is that we’re just not prompting it right (reminds me of Apple with the iPhone 4’s antenna and their infamous statement to customers that “you’re holding it wrong”). That kind of deflection will only work for so long before people catch on to the fact that we aren’t going to get to AGI anytime soon and those who are looking for a quick escape from having to work better not make any plans for a hasty exit from gainful employment.

@neetcode1 AGI timelines give me whiplash too. But honestly, most teams don’t need sentient AI—just using existing models strategically to automate the grind. (Also, if prompting was easy, why’s everyone’s LinkedIn full of ‘AI whisperer’ titles?)

@neetcode1 The problem is not the model. The problem is automatic context management - finding the 128k (or fewer) tokens that will produce the output you want. The better the models get, the less perfect the prompt needs to be.

@neetcode1 In recent weeks I’ve become increasingly annoyed by it. Up to point where I received an email me hard-selling AI tools with “oh you’re typing your code manually. Respect. But why?” from a place I would have never expect it.
