There are so many of them out there in different forms, including those who make you build their application in the name of a take home assessment. Apart from job boards who verify people posting, there isn't any way I know to address these cases. Stay safe out there people!

It is easy for the unsuspecting to see it as an opportunity to work for a foreign company. In addition, the email used uses quite a convincing picture making most people unsuspecting of being scammed. The thing is I am certain this isn't the only scam lying around.

When you do the maths on how many people will usually apply to a job posting, you'll end up with a reasonable sum of money. Now when we do some checks: Geneva Technologies happens to be a match on LinkedIn. More like people who work there based on their profile

On selar.co. The ideal victim then goes ahead purchase this book which is usually backend in nature. It costs 1,500 naira. The book actually contains almost nothing. Usually 13 pages or so of something unrelated. You will never hear from them again

This email tells them that they have been invited for an HR interview with a promised Google Meet link. A book is then recommended to the candidate for them to purchase in order to aid them in the interviews. The book is not "available offline" and can only be bought online

This is how they operate: First they craft a job posting and out it out there. As expected, the winds of SWE trying to help others will spread this job posting to others who are looking for roles. When a candidates applies, they are sent a really nice and well crafted email
