Your job as CEO of a startup is to give other leaders autonomy to fully own parts of the business and give them everything they need to succeed.
When a class of customers is slow and bureaucratic, the thing for startups to do is compete with them, not try to build things for them. Unless the source of the slowness is regulation; then startups should think twice.
There are two types of managers in startups: 1. Doers who scale: People who care deeply about doing x, and need a team in order to do more/better x. 2. Manager first: People who consider their job organizing the people who do x. Type 1 produces dramatically better outcomes.
The average startup needs to stay focused and do 1/100th the things it would like to do in order to be successful. There are rare exceptions.

When you think about your competitors I find it valuable to consider what your product would be in 5-6 years. A lot of products seem competitive simply because they overlap in features in the first year but tend to diverge rapidly based on their ultimate plan.
Startups needs a Chief Storytelling Officer and ideally this is the founder.
