In terms of Imane Khalif having a “biological advantage” let’s discuss Michael Phelps. Phelps has: - Double jointed elbows & knees - A hyperextended thorax - 50% less lactic acid production than the average competitor And yet, no one ever said he had a biological advantage.
Imane Khalif is also in her second Olympics, yet no one has taken issue with her until she annihilated the face of a terrible Italian boxer.
Update: according to the smooth brained geniuses, this doesn’t count, only the XY chromosome is relevant.
I’m also seeing a lot of “Michael Phelps didn’t punch people in the face” but maybe he did you never know what he did in his free time
This tweet went viral, so I should promote something! With that being said, I have nothing to promote. So here is a photo of a dinosaur, I think dinosaurs are cool
For those now threatening me with bodily harm over this tweet, I strongly suggest therapy.
Since this keeps being brought up: Michael Phelps competed against men because he's a man. Imane Khalif competes against women because she's a woman. Sorry for the confusion.
@nick_dece The level of stupid this has revealed is phenomenal. Very slowly for your small brain: Michael Phelps Was A Man Swimming Against Other Men.
@nick_dece Yep, it’s like saying a 7 foot man shouldn’t play basketball because of his biological advantage.
@nick_dece Now consider a female swimmer with >checks the list of superhuman qualities people unthinkingly reel off about Phelps> Double jointedness A big chest Favourable lactic acid metabolism Reckon she’d swim as fast as Phelps?
@nick_dece Because he’s competing against people in his sex class
@nick_dece let me know when michael phelps swims against chicks.
@nick_dece Funny thing is this woman they’re crying about has lost to women 9 times too but she won now it’s a problem
@nick_dece He’s a male competing with males get a fucking grip
@nick_dece Phelps is a male competing in the male category. Glad we could clear that up.
@nick_dece But this is unfair male advantage in female sports. We get it though, you don't believe women are entitled to fair, safe sports. You've made your position very clear!
Everyone says he does. He’s the best male swimmer ever because of his body. No man, regardless of training or dedication or luck, could match his greatness. But he’s still a man competing against other men. He didn’t jump in the pool with women. That’s like saying lebron doesn’t have a physical advantage.
@nick_dece What are you taking? I’d suggest you report back to your doctor that it’s making you a bit loopy.
@nick_dece So effectively you think we should just scrap age, para, weight and sex categories so that able bodied men can win everything? Gotcha 👍
@nick_dece Because there are no separate categories for 'double-jointed athletes' you utter moron.
@nick_dece Imagine Phelps said Iam an woman 😎 he would be still winning medal in olympics
Everyone said he had a biological advantage. Just not one we carve out protections for. We have weight classes in boxing and women’s divisions so that lighter boxers and women can medal. Youre argument is one to eliminate all women’s divisions in athletics. Why do they exist if not to curtail a specific set of advantages?
@nick_dece Were you always the most stupid person in your class at school?
@nick_dece Phelps competed against other men with the same XY chromosomes. Period. Debate over.
@nick_dece But most importantly the same biochemistry as his competitors
Imane Khalif is genetically male. He belongs and should compete in the male division at the appropriate weight. A lifetime of development with male hormones and growth factors is the biological equivalent of hyper doping. Last I heard, doping is grounds for disqualification. Your analogy fails. Phelps falls into the men’s division. Imane’s Y chromosomes say he belongs there too. Swyre syndrome does not make Imane female. He’s a male with a rare desease which causes male hormone “doping”. This is inappropriate in the female Division.
@nick_dece Damn, Phelps was literally built different wtf
@nick_dece So let’s just abolish the women’s sports categories all together. 🙄
This is dumb. Let’s say our friend Michael meets a female swimmer with double jointed elbows and knees and all the other advantages listed here- someone like Katie Ledecky. Who’s going to have more of an advantage? Are we still pretending like this is hard to understand? It’s not cute.
@nick_dece Phelps only had to swim against other men. It’s an irrelevant comparison to men swimming against women. Or boxing against them where they might actually be seriously injured or worse.
@nick_dece Because he was competing against men.
