Redmayne & Todd Sports Shop, Canal Street / Carrington Street. This beautiful block of Victorian shops was THE sports retailer in the city. Renovation in progress. The block was designed by Gilbert Smith Doughty and built 1896 -1898 #Nottingham #architecture
@nottmhistory Always went there for my football boots
@nottmhistory As a schoolboy, if you bought it from Redmaynes, you felt like you were buying "grown-up kit!"
@nottmhistory What a coincidence. We were only talking about Redmayne and Todd at the weekend. I bought my hockey stick there!
@nottmhistory If my memory serves me well, there was a snooker or pool table on the upper floor. We used to bash the balls around while getting meaningful looks from the staff.
@nottmhistory Fantastic landmark, but, sadly , Redmayne & Todd to me equates with the flimsy, pricey, Gymflex PE shorts that my old grammar school insisted on parents buying as part of our school uniform. Woolworths shorts, though less flimsy and less expensive, could not be countenanced. 😩
@nottmhistory Used to have to get schools reversible rugby top from there
@nottmhistory I think the renovation has mostly been completed, this was taken in August 2022.
@nottmhistory Ah where my dad took me for the cricket bats including the one the Rev David Sheperd signed! Oh the smell of linseed oil!
@nottmhistory Oh Saturday morning in the 60's trying out the gun & Moore cricket bat's. Never could afford one
@nottmhistory I thought renovation was completed a few years ago(?)... Certainly looks extra-beautiful now, especially at night.
