The news has been welcomed by the @opencastlegates campaign group. However the group raises questions over the council's business model (which still isn't public), and just how different it is to that of the Castle Trust's failed vision.

In September 2022, I bought ‘Curious Rebel’ annual pass to Nottingham Castle. @HughCasswell says that month trust sent formal notice of financial distress to Council. Was trust trading while insolvent? Open the Gates! Open the books!!

@BBCNottingham Did @CllrDavidMellen know in advance about the liquidation of the Castle Trust? If so, why was the Castle allowed to sell annual passes right up until closure? If not, why not? @opencastlegates

Nottingham Castle gates were closed suddenly to the public on 21 November 2022, when the trust operating the site declared it was seeking liquidation. Now the site is back under the direct control of Nottingham City Council. Unlock the gates, and let people enjoy the green space!
