Ubiquiti should not belong in a enterprise or home lab.
@osx_unix I saw somewhere once that read: "Ubiquiti is the Apple of the networking world"
@osx_unix I’ve flashed OpenWRT on all the things I own from them. And I plan to reverse engineer the API of the Flex Mini, would be a lovely small „managed“ switch ;) It’s just that their firmware/OS is crap
@osx_unix Agreed. They EOL’ed kit that I purchased no more than three years after release, and a year after I purchased it. The reason? It was shit and a customer support burden so they nuked it and replaced it with a new Gen. I’ve seen heard years of complaints from others.
@osx_unix I agree. the support model and enterprise feature sets are non-existent.
@osx_unix Say What? :-/ Hater.. I should absolutely trust my business with Toy electronics. When it takes my Enterprise down, and I'm bleeding 100's of K$$ per minute, I only have to run down to the WalMrts and pick up a new Link$y$. Look at the Capitol expense I'm saving.
@osx_unix I'm to the point where I'd be afraid of having them in my environment. I automatically assume their products are accidentally compromised judging by their security practices.
@osx_unix I like it in a set and forget manner. But I’m learning nothing, their docs are awful and fragmented + UDM stuff has a bad cli. I think with their consolidation of code bases that they have been working on, that things **might** get better, but I’m not going to bank on it.
@osx_unix I don't understand this. People usually say this a lot. I have worked on UniFi product so only have experience with their APs and other Wireless equipemnt like LightBeam and PowerBeams.. have found them OK in working and configurations. Not sure about support though.
@osx_unix As much as I love Ubiquiti I agree with this 100%
@osx_unix My Unifi Setup is just a switch and an AP , But most of my friend group rocks Unifi for Homelab. Mind you I have seen my fair issues on my end but nothing 20 mins wont fix. I can agree it should be no where near Enterprise.
@osx_unix terrible switches ..horrible hardware
@osx_unix don't worry, any home labs and enterprise environments wanting ubiquiti will have to wait at least 6 weeks to get started, due to chronic low inventory. 😂
@osx_unix Nothing like updates resetting your configuration
@osx_unix I get enterprise, but seems like it is perfect for homelab although expensive.
@osx_unix Idk, once I figured out its best to keep the standard 192.... network on the UDM for adaption and then switch nets afterwards. It works pretty well. I let pf/opnsense manage nets but still use UDM as the g/w which gets Wan from pf/opn.
