if adults can still be employed after storming the capitol building i can probably get a job with a nose ring
@abby0mal A doctor w tattoos and piercings is still a doctor lmao people's fashion and design do not equate their skills at what they do at all it's like if I saw a picture you hung on your wall and said "oh actually you can't work here" - it's dumb, judgemental, and there's no correlation
@abby0mal When I was a receptionist at a creative agency I couldn't have unnatural hair colors because it would look unprofessional to our clients who have unnatural hair colors
@abby0mal @catastrophob the way they tried to say i wouldn't get a job in a lab with visible tattoos like . you're not going to see them?? under my gloves and lab coat?? who the fuck am i trying to look professional for?? the bacteria??? do the prokaryotes demand business-wear?? i am so tired
@abby0mal stop this i can't handle having to say no to a septum piercing again
@abby0mal I have 3 facial piercings and visual tattoos as a teacher. It’s not a problem til I try to get a summer job at a gas station or hotel.
@abby0mal @SamhainNight I got the job I have had for a decade with an eyebrow pierce, so definitely.
@abby0mal I once had a boss at my RESTAURANT JOB who made me take out my small stud nose ring every single shift. Like sir I make like $3 an hour, half the line cooks are felons fresh outta jail, half the staff is high, but my nose ring is a problem ok got it.
@abby0mal @konfusionk Maybe at McDonalds if you are lucky.
@abby0mal @MistressTerra Most people are fine with it. It's that small group (mostly old people) that get a bug up their ass about it. I worked in a grocery store and at least once a month some miserable old person would complain to the manager about a cashier having visible tattoos/piercings
@abby0mal @blackgrrltragic For 10 years, the person who hired me at my last job couldn’t _not_ bring up that she hired me “even with” my nose ring
@abby0mal if you’re mad about this, ask yourself why people who commit an act of domestic terrorism and inciting violence deserves to keep their job but someone who has a piece of jewelry in their face is deemed unprofessional? like really, which one is actually a big deal....
@abby0mal My mother’s dire warning on a tattoo of a tree frog ruining my life seems out of proportion now, yes.
@abby0mal I have a corporate job and plenty of people I work with have nose piercings. I’m in California though so I can’t speak for more conservative states.
@abby0mal I work in a medical lab and I have my nose pierced! Its a little stud and is in compliance with our dress code policy because it doesn't hinder me in my work (yes I had to look this up to prove it to a supervisor 🙄)
@abby0mal @geekysteven Just don’t wear jeans if it’s not casual Friday!! 😱
@abby0mal Right? Sure, my hair is pink, but also I’ve never plotted to violently overthrow the federal government, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@abby0mal At least you should be able to! I know who I'd rather work with between someone with a nose ring and a domestic terrorist.
@abby0mal I've worked various jobs, one of which was filling vending machines. I was more professionally dressed than most of the people in the offices I delivered to. I'm not being critical, but it's not the nose ring. Fluff your resume maybe.
@abby0mal If this women has amazing unnaturally colored hair I feel like I should be able to too working in a school.
@abby0mal When I was interviewing for my first PR job out of college, I took out my nose ring for nearly every interview. The job I got where I stayed the first five years of my career? The one I forgot to take it out for😂
@abby0mal What's amazing is that I've worked for large pharma/biotech companies that used photos of their employees with brightly colored hair/piercings/etc in public promotional materials. Meanwhile UPS is only now like "I guess beards/textured hair might be ok."
@abby0mal At my job (academic publishing) so many of us have nose piercings I've joked we should just make it the official uniform so absolutely
@abby0mal if adults can be employed after storming the capitol, I can wear my platforms to school
@abby0mal I work healthcare with tattoos and a nose ring. No one really cares in that field as long as your job is done well.
@abby0mal I literally got fired from a job because I decided to dye my hair neon green, it was a pizzeria???
@abby0mal not hiring people bc of jewelry, piercings, & tattoos can also put you on the wrong side of whatever diversity&inclusion efforts a company touts. all 3 can be cultural & religious. even outside of d&i, why would you hire ppl who have to change smthn about themselves to work there
@abby0mal Let’s not assume they aren’t unionized or work in some backwater swamp states. Plus employment law with social media on top of a federal, criminal court case is....a new one for companies’ attorneys to deal with
@abby0mal It's so annoying that i can't wear my galaxy skirt to work or dye my hair pink cuz i have a "professional" job 😒
@abby0mal You’d think right? *as I turn around and see my co-worker showing my boss his “cool” confederate flag tattoo on the small of his back. *then they both high-five
@abby0mal I pierced mine last year before the lockdown because 49 seemed like the right time. Everyone at work thought I already had one. It was anticlimactic. ♥️
@abby0mal If adults can keep their job for storming the capitol, I can smoke a lil weed and work at amazon
@abby0mal "Keeping a professional appearance" is honestly a worthless concern and it baffles me that people get so hung up on it. So long as things are hygienic and the work is competent, it doesn't matter how the worker dresses or accessorizes.
