우리나라는 노벨상을 왜 못 탈까? 과학의 중요성을 못 느껴서다. 이것도 정치로 풀려고 하는 한 우리 차례는 안 온다. 기초과학은 물론 응용과학도 탄탄한 과학을 바탕으로 해야 된다. 민원, 민생, 안보에서도 과학이 말하는 것을 우선으로 판단해야한다.
'해체신서'는 일본으로 하여금 중국 기원의 힌의학을 현대의학으로 바꾸는데 절대적인 공헌을 했다. 거기에 참뜻이 있고 높은 가치가 있다. 그러니까 거기에 사용한 한자를 우리도 의학용어로 받아들여야 한다는 주장은 잘못된 것이다. 우리는 한글이 있다.
며칠 전 "해체신서"에 관한 세미나가 있었다. "해체신서"는 일본에 혁신을 불러 일으킨 3세기 전의 책 이름이다. "그러니까 우리는 의학용어에서 한자를 무시해선 안된다"는 엉뚱한 반응이 나왔다. 울청한 숲을 보라고 했더니 비뚤어진 나무 한 그루를...
해체신서가 일본에서 한의학을 밀어내고 새로운 현대의학을 받아들이는 계기를 만들었는가 하면 우리나라에선 밀려났던 한의학의 불씨를 다시 살려 두 종류의 의사를 만들어내는 2원적인 의사제도를 선택했다. 의사와 한의사.
제목이 돋보인다. "연못에 퍼진 한 방울의 기름". 몇 세기 전에 펴낸 이 책 한권이 일본의 의학을 새로운 세계로 바꾸었고 그 뒤로 이 책 제목 '해체신서'는 혁신적인 것이라는 대명사가 되어 일본 사람들의 사랑 받는 낱말이 되었다.
