The digital world is a mirror into who you were yesterday.
Not who you are growing into.
The post you clicked on 6 months ago shapes your content today.
It's a trap to keep you a predictable consumer.
Click on what challenges your beliefs.
It's the only path to freedom.
The social media era is ending.
The reconnection revolution is here.
Build real businesses.
Make real friends.
Do something cool and forget to take a selfie.
Log off, and live.
It's time to unplug from technology, and reconnect to our physiology.
This year millions of kids will be placed on addictive medications.
The question is what to do about it.
1.) Community based health education for kids and families.
2.) Data-driven approach to assessing physiology, first.
3.) Supportive health centered communities.
70% of teens get insufficient sleep on a regular basis.
Lack of sleep leads to anxiety, depression, and inability to focus.
This year millions of kids will be labeled with "disorders" and drugged for their natural response to exhaustion.
This should keep us all up at night.
Before the microscope was invented the causes of illness were imagined.
Since its invention we learned the body was made of cells.
This changed the course of medicine.
Scientists celebrated, gurus protested.
A.I is the new microscope.
Gurus protest, professionals assess.
The premise of the mental health industry is wrong.
If a child's social, emotional, and physical needs were met, they believe anxiety and depression would still exist.
This is implicit in the word "disorder."
This is not only wrong, it's an insult to human potential.
When a child approaches cold water, they have no fear.
Fear of experience is a learned response.
School provides an education in desensitization.
We learn to become strangers to ourselves.
The future of learning?
Unlearning fear, and learning to feel again.
Why are millions of kids placed on addictive drugs every year?
No health assessment is required to receive a "mental health" diagnosis.
We assess sleep, exercise, and diet.
We build a blueprint for health.
It's the mental health industry that's disordered, not the kids.
The school system is an assault on individuality.
The economic value proposition of the century?
Individuality.
We need to invest in raising a generation of creative, intelligent, resilient individuals.
2 Things Every Student Should Know About Brain Health:
1.) Dopamine is metabolized at different speeds, based on our genes.
This makes learning and attention individual to each of us.
2.) These differences are not "disorders."
They're the essence of our individuality.
A new vision for community health:
Kids learn to manage stress and anxiety, before they're stressed and anxious.
Families life weights together in the evening, and build more than muscles.
They build unbreakable bonds.
The sport of life is calling.
Coaches are needed, now.
Dopamine is the brain chemical responsible for motivation & learning.
Kids metabolize dopamine at different speeds, based on their genes.
DNA differences are not "disorders."
They're the essence of our individuality.
We can't medicate a generation for being human.
Cheap dopamine: Watching other people live their lives on social media.
Deep dopamine: Doing what you were born to do. Changing the world in the process.
Dopamine is the brain chemical responsible for reward and motivation.
Choose your depth, choose your destiny.
Pop quiz:
A.) Can you design an exercise program?
B.) How do temperature, caffeine, and light impact sleep?
C.) How does social media impact dopamine levels?
D.) Can you create a meal plan based on your unique body?
If you can't answer all four, how are kids supposed to?
What if schools taught the science of being human?
A generation of kids would learn to:
Breathe
Sleep
Exercise
Cook a nutritious meal
Improve their mental health
The future of education is learning about our physiology first.
The youth mental health crisis is about to accelerate rapidly.
Finding someone who isn't too distracted to care is nearly impossible.
The cost of accelerating technology, increased isolation and adult apathy?
Fuel on a fire only care can extinguish.
The irony of modern education?
Kids are taught to suppress their individuality, or be diagnosed with a disorder.
Yet, individuality is the most valuable currency of the century.
You are valuable to the degree that A.I can't replace you.
This leaves one job: Being yourself.
We just built a personalized cookbook for a 15 year old, based on her biology.
Meals designed around her metabolism, nutrients needs, and personal goals.
This will be a staple offering at our campuses.
We're giving students an operating manual for mental and physical health.
The more you understand physiology the farther away you stay from politics.
The limbic system dominates human decision making.
Emotional reactivity overrides reasoning.
Knowing this doesn't make you apathetic.
It inspires you to create change through different pathways.
When you label normal human behavior as a series of "disorders" something interesting happens.
You see the behaviors everywhere.
Because they are normal human behaviors.
When every last child is diagnosed as mentally ill for being an individual, that's how that happened.
