Blended Execution: The game changer? What is blended execution? Blended execution is Fluent’s approach to running multiple virtual machines on one blockchain while also ensuring their compatibility and composability. Using blended execution, Fluent enables contracts from different VMs to interact and talk to each other natively on the same state. Fluent’s approach solves fragmentation in web3 as we know it. Developers often run into the problem of which ecosystem to build on and which would be more favorable for them or their code. But what if they could have the benefits of different VMs at hand? A GameFi developer could build the tokenomics and marketplace of their game with Solidity due to the EVM’s robust DeFi tooling, then use WASM to power the on-chain games, and finally use Rust for its ultra-low latency, security, and high performance. Blended execution on Fluent also features atomic composability—all contracts can call each other across different VMs. With blended execution, developers can go beyond the restrictions limiting them on other chains and be more expressive with what they are building. Apps get to be more fun, and user experience is improved. We have had several blockchains try the multi-VM approach, of course. There is Shiden/Astar with their dual-engine architecture that ran two different runtimes (EVM and WASM) on the same state.
