to me, it was very basic: ‘treat others how you want to be treated’. when I was younger, I didn’t get why people wouldn’t follow such a simple way of being kind. I was always asking, ‘but why would they do that?’ and my mind rested when I stopped trying to unpick their behaviour

it was such a hard concept to wrap my head around. but it truly is about learning that you can’t expect people to approach you with the same moral compass and conduct of behaviour. that the standards you hold for yourself truly might be too much for them to ever meet themselves

I once told my therapist, ‘I don’t understand why they did that to me, I’d never do the same to them.’ she said I can’t expect everyone to behave as I would, as they don’t view the world through my lens. they may not ever think to treat me with the same amount of consideration
