Once they'd gone ahead, U's eased away to an extremely comfortable afternoon. A couple of simple Eastwood saves the only danger, kept Newport at arm's length. U's have 10 points from 6 games, something they didn't get to until 14 games into last season, as well as two cup wins.

Bit of a snooze fest with the benefit of adding a goal. U’s struggled to get away from Newport tight pressing, passes into forward positions have been poor. But also kept Newport very quiet the other way. Such a bonus that United look such a dangerous set piece team this year.

My first ever visit to Cambridge United was September 1998 when they knocked out Premier League Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup. They've never made it to the third round since, until tonight. Surprisingly only the fifth time they've ever made it to round three in history.

U's had been good value for that, good finish but a poor goal to concede to get Charlton back in it is irritating. The move for Brophy goal was terrific, Kouassi took his very well. Had all been very comfortable until dallying around to let Fullah score.
