Pretty much all tier 1 ADAS developers in China are working on their vision-only systems and some have their systems run on end2end architecture. A few days ago at a product launch event, Huawei presented 3 ADAS systems: 1) vision-only, 2) single LiDAR+vision, 3) 3 LiDARs+vision. This is the similar approach some others like LI and Xpeng are taking. LiDAR setup is transitory and will phase out eventually in my opinion. Tesla FSD has shown the path and viability of vision-only approach to reach full autonomy in a cost-effective and unrestricted way. Proactive Chinese players are taking cues from Tesla’s playbook while legacy automakers are sleeping.
@ray4tesla Teslas lead is not unlimited; not having h-100s will delay their training.
@ray4tesla I feel like committing to 3 ADAS is like teaching your kid to swim with foam tube on Monday, throw kid in the water on Tuesday and then using a lifebuoy on Wednesday.
@ray4tesla Companies in China definitely copy things rather quickly, just not quite perfectly.
@ray4tesla LIDAR making a come back.. imagine using LIDAR but same training method with vision only rather than 'hardcoding' wait.. that is the magic sauce!
@ray4tesla Huawei using shotgun approach. 😂 Robotaxi will need high definition RADAR or infrared LIDAR to improve safety during adverse weather conditions or else be left stranded. @elonmusk @Tesla_AI
@ray4tesla Legacy is probably observing and analyzing to conclude that they will have no choice but to license FSD from Tesla. They are probably designing their vehicles for the next cycle rollout to have Tesla-like cameras that will position them to license FSD at the same time.
