@jordanbhx @DearDolores @GeorgeMonbiot I hope you are aware of @rethinkHS2 i.e. rethink-hs2.uk which is way cheaper, incremental, connected and uses an already industrialised route (the M1 corridor)

@TomRLancaster @GeorgeMonbiot Because HS2 is not low carbon infrastructure, it does very little except encourage more travel & it is wasting money that could be used on far better things that would reduce carbon & travel.

@o_logical @GeorgeMonbiot @stophs2 This is HS2's own forecast. Before #Covid19 it said it *might* be carbon-neutral after 120 years, but even then could not be sure. #Covid19 hastens the move to working from home & demand for faster broadband, which further weakens HS2's economic & business case.

@o_logical @GeorgeMonbiot HS2 admits it will not be carbon-neutral for 12 decades, if ever. We need to minimise GHG's before 2030. Building HS2 has a huge embedded carbon footprint. It will increase climate change in the critical decade in which we should be reducing it. We should @stophs2 immediately.

I suspect that as the business case for HS2 becomes ever more absurd, the project will eventually be abandoned, but not before many £bns have been spent, and more precious habitats destroyed. The protesters are speaking truths that even the government will one day have to hear.

The #HS2 protesters are heroes. HS2 is the Concorde of the 21st Century: a money-guzzling, carbon-pumping white elephant that - if it ever comes to fruition - will serve the rich at everyone else's expense. theguardian.com/environment/20…

Unfortunately this suggests the Chancellor has quite a poor grasp of basic economics, which is bad news for the economy more generally. A project where the costs will exceed the benefits is pointless, not just bad value for money. telegraph.co.uk/politics/2020/… #HS2

@LucyMPowell @henrimurison @NP_Partnership @BBCr4today HS2 notice to proceed has been delayed another 6 months. HS2 Ltd have admitted they are considering slowing down trains, & reducing the amount of trains, to get costs down. We should not continue with this flawed project because some still believe in the fantasy of #HS2.
