I haven't necessarily figured out what the problem with the Church of today is, but I know what it isn't. Our problem is not a lack of information.

Racism and injustice existing inside of the fabric of social institutions and structures is Biblical. God in Jesus Christ overthrowing those structures by the now and future kingdom of God is also Biblical.

Some people think that when you believe, it makes your life easier somehow. More answers, comfort, etc. Experience has taught me that isn't what faith is. Daring to believe in the reality of God in Christ makes life a lot harder.

4 things I have to regularly distinguish as a pastor: Are my words being shaped by pastoral concern or pastoral anxiety? Is my leadership invitational or impositional? Am I nurturing a culture of empowerment or just being lazy? Am I developing others or controlling?

The more I preach and pastor, the more I realize that no matter what I’m preaching on, I must offer a word of comfort and hope to the people listening. People are experiencing too much fear and pain to go a week without hearing a concrete word of hope from God.
