My latest @TorontoStar: Rent controls don’t reduce housing supply, but they do limit profit. thestar.com/opinion/contri…
@ricardo_tranjan @TorontoStar Thanks for this - great to challenge this standard conservative economic argument on supply. Do you have the specific link for that International Journal of Housing Policy article you cite? Currently just goes to the journal home page. Would love to read for evidence.
@ricardo_tranjan @TorontoStar Go visit San Francisco and talk to renters about whether or not they're happy about the fact that we have the strongest rent control on the continent but have built virtually no new housing in 40 years. It's been an utter catastrophe for the city
@ricardo_tranjan @terraloire @TorontoStar Thank u for writing this article There has been a concerted effort recently to blame the affordable housing crisis on immigrants, students developer charges, "red tape", enviro laws, etc- anyone other than landlords, investors & developers....aka the people making all the $$
@ricardo_tranjan @TorontoStar Great article, Ricardo!
@ricardo_tranjan @TorontoStar Great article! Does anyone know if there will be any update to Bill 48 soon, which would supposedly bring back rent control?
@ricardo_tranjan @TorontoStar Good thing profit isn't a right.
@ricardo_tranjan @TorontoStar Land Value Tax would do a much better job of capturing land rents (aka limiting profits) than rent controls.
