2/3 It would make little tactical sense to give a definite period of 2 weeks and that’s not what the WH has said. In matters as grave as these, we can assume they have chosen their words carefully. Regrettably, “within 2 weeks” must be interpreted as “at any time…”.

1/2 Let’s be clear. “Within the next 2 weeks” means “at any time during the course of the next 2 weeks”. That could be today, tomorrow, in a week’s time, or in 2 weeks’ time. Media outlets saying “he will allow two weeks for diplomacy” may want to reconsider. “Within” is not “in”
