Buffalo has multiple fire trucks out of service. One of the Engines had chains come off and is wrapped up in the axel. Ladder 15 is stuck and has multiple cars blocking the firehouse. Ladder 7 needs to defrost.

Based on reports from the field, a Driving Ban will go into effect for all of Erie County as of 9:30 AM. The Thruway is now closed in both directions at milepost 436 due to a camper versus power pole accident leaving power lines across both Thruway directions.

Perspective: A Blizzard Warning is for 35+ mph winds + 1/4 mi visibilities from snow (or blowing snow), for 3+ hrs. At #BUF, we expect blizzard conditions for ~30 hrs, with peak winds ~70 mph. Don't focus on snow totals. Power outages + stranded cold travelers are higher impacts.

In my 32 years as a chief meteorologist in Buffalo television, I’ve stayed away from giving advice on school closings, even when my youngest daughter used to lobby me. This time around, it would be inconceivable to me for schools to be open on Friday. Just too dangerous. Period.
