It wasn't until I'd *taught* algorithms a few times that I finally understood why sorting is in the CS curriculum. Unfortunately, most curricula don't explain this! It is NOT because sorting is an important algorithm to learn to implement...

A reality that most devs working at large companies take time to appreciate: Personal connections tend to make things easier: the larger the company, the more so. The larger the company, the more noise every team has to cut through. These connections help cut through the noise.

What I wish more tech companies/scaleups big on A/B testing codified: Not everything needs to be an experiment. Experimenting has value add, but doing it too much has the team forget their vision, and people focus on experiment results over building something meaningful.

An interesting term I learned today: "borderless engineering." Referring to the practice that engineers can - and do- "float" to other teams to help out with work for as little as a few days, or up to a few months. Especially relevant unblocking large, org-wide projects.
