Some ideas to grow in prayer in 2024: 1) befriend silence 2) normalize boredom 3) reframe distractions 4) remember that prayer is not something we master, but an act that forms us. 5) trust that God is always waiting for you with open arms.

The images and stories from Afghanistan are heartbreaking. Pray for the nation and its people - especially innocent women and children. Pray for the persecuted Church and for various minority groups who are suffering under oppression. Lord, in your mercy...

Good missional theology and practice believes that wherever we go, God has already been working. We don't bring God anywhere. Rather, we discover through prayer and conversation where God has been at work. To believe otherwise is naïveté at best and colonization at worst.

Had coffee today with a counselor who attends our church. Part of the convo was his observation about why “doom-scrolling” causes so much anxiety— it introduces us to problems beyond the scope of our agency. When our awareness outpaces our agency, we are left with anxiety.

The essence of prayer is about "waiting for a word that we cannot speak to ourselves." - Thomas Merton Positive self-talk will only get us so far. We need a word spoken in the depths of our soul through the Spirit. And it's found in the stillness of prayer.
