ESOL assessments in east Bradford followed by a snapped pedal meant a proper visit to Peel Park. I didn't take a photo but my goodness it's another cracking park, with a whole half I didn't even realise existed. (And with a proper BMX track to boot.)

Saw someone flying a Yorkshire white rose flag and a union jack in their garden yesterday. A tad ostentatious, perhaps, but all perfectly legal, as evidenced by the utter absence of police officers going round to arrest them, or council workers taking them down.

Assumed today that a kind gentleman in a car was waiting to let me pull out on my bike. I was about to wave a cheery thank you when he looked up from his phone, noticed the traffic had moved and almost drove into me. Typical driver.

Looking at a word list for functional skills English, and it's got heel/he'll as homophones. Not convinced here: "Heel" usually has a full stress /hi:l/ but "he'll" is usually unstressed and if anything is closer to "hill" or even /həl/

Just been to see Fantastic four. Got back, and managed to very very quickly fix the gears on my bike which had driven me mad all day. Ran back up into the kitchen (bike is kept in the cellar) and sang "Fantastic Daaaad!" Family were unimpressed.

The UK used to have a broad vibrant adult education system, with courses (free or cheap) running in local neighbourhood centres. But we kept electing governments who re-engineered it to "serve the economy and employers needs, so "UK plc" can compete with China and India"

I read this book first when I was 11. On my 15th birthday I went to WHSmiths in Banbury clutching 25 whole pounds and bought myself the then brand new paperbacks w covers by Alan Lee. So it being my 50th birthday this year, I thought it was time for an upgrade.
