Back in college I had an idea to create a social media platform, just a plain one like any other and get students to use it. The learnings could be immense, designing the database relations to posts and notifs controllers but never actually executed the idea. Time to get back up!

My Auth project is complete, it was one hell of a job😂and I am not moving forward with adding social login options (who knows I might have made my own clerk lmao) but I did implement a lot, otp to foget password, and protected routes. Just wanted to understand how it works.

When 2 users have same password and you use the same hashing algorithm, the result will be same and that's a problem. And that's why salts are used. They are basically randomized gibberish hard strings attached to the passwords before hashing, to get rid of the above problem.

Come to think of it I never implemented a full fledged authentication system. I mean sure you can use clerk aur basiuc jwt auth but just the libraries uhmm nah, I have started working on a complete auth system.

Some takeway, long polling works but then it was the reason you have broswer based socket API. LP sends HTTP requests which are stateless, but sockets move out on TCP which maintains it's state. But LP is still in use, cause some firewalls don't allow TCP requests to pass through

So, vercel is ass is terms of deployement if you have a backend (which is still doable) by hosting backend somewhere else but then comes web sockets and real-time communication b/w backend services. Render has cold start for free tier but then man it's so much better than vercel.

lesgoooo, webSockets in action. we have got online. couldn't get socketio connect and emit to work with zustand, my noob as* took 4hrs+ to figure out.

The messages won't load, images won't upload(fixed) as of now it says please select an image for selecting an image 😂got a lot to fix and sometimes you don't even get a send button or image upload option. These are some premium features only available in my Chat application 🙂.
