5/Justice Min said that govt will investigate complaints made prior to 2000. Why only prior to 2000 when large no of violations took place during and in few yrs before end of war in 2009? Such prioritization is artificial and gives impression aim is to protect certain persons
4/Claiming victims raise these issues or take it to the Council only because they are being “used” treats them as puppets and not as people with agency. UN shouldn’t be viewed as a hostile entity and only govts that do not abide by intl law react defensively.
3/Minister must understand raising human rights issues at UN Human Rights Council is right of victims and civil society. Calling it ‘drama’ belittles the only forum that to date has platformed victims’ concerns. Chemmani issue has been raised consistently, not just close to Sept.
2/Goes on to say people should reject ‘dramas’ created using the victims. Claims that when he visited Chemmani in March/May there wasn’t even a guard at the entrance. May I remind Minister that ensuring the site is secure is govt’s duty, so he should have taken immediate action.
