#WhatIlearnedinWR60 Fifth takeaway: The impact of oil spills on penguins. going through the research process for the advocacy project has been really enlightening not only to learn about penguins but the general state of oceanic pollution and conservation efforts
#WhatIlearnedinWR60 the 4th skill: translating between genres. For the scicomm article, I think it was a great experience to have to critically remove pieces of information from a research paper to fit the content for a more general audience
#WhatIlearnedinWR60 A third skill that I learned is pigeonholing on one specific topic in various different mediums. For example, when trying to find research for my articles, its been really fun to explore research across different area like social media or ted talks
#WhatIlearnedinWR60 The second skill i want to highlight is writing in different mediums. Whether that's on creating twitter posts, or multimedia articles, or website blogs. It is a really nice change of pace from more methodical essay writing
#WhatIlearnedinWR60 The first and most useful thing I feel like I can take away from this course is the use of social media for advocacy and research. Doing weekly twitter blogs and scouring the site to find valuable information has been immensely rewarding

Marine Protected Areas are designated specifically to control fishing in certain areas so that the biodiversity of the region can be preserved. This is especially helpful for penguins as overfishing has led to a decline of food sources #39canimals
