My biggest complaint about event sourcing before LLMs was the boilerplate. Haskell, functional event sourcing, and LLMs solved that for me. I can now one-shot most changes, and the resulting code is easy to review and verify.

Honeycomb's pricing model doesn’t make sense in 2025, especially with modern OLAP databases that are cheap to operate. Looking forward to Jaeger adding native ClickHouse support.

Code becomes a liability in long-lived apps when it's trapped in a monolith inside a monorepo, or when it relies on questionable dependencies. Outside of that, it can create tremendous value.

In Japan, there's the term ワープロ馬鹿 (“word processor idiot”) for people who can’t write kanji by hand and rely on IMEs. I wonder if 人工知能馬鹿 (“AI idiot”) will emerge for those who can’t think without AI.

I use Waymo all the time, but I wouldn’t want it on freeways. It’s just too slow. Waymos need to be programmed to keep up with the flow of traffic.

Haskell developers often take the tooling for granted. Every time I switch to frontend work, I’m reminded how difficult it is to find API documentation. Nothing in other ecosystems matches the power of hoogle.

Extracto became my favorite tmux plugin. It lets me complete commands just by grabbing text already on the screen without touching the mouse. It’s incredibly useful with git and kubectl.
